چکیده

Estimation of the initial state turbulent channel flow from limited data is investigated using an adjoint-variational approach. The are generated a reference direct numerical simulation (DNS) which sub-sampled at different spatiotemporal resolutions. When velocity 1/4096 resolution DNS, correlation coefficient between true and estimated exceeds 99 percent. robustness algorithm to observation noise demonstrated. In addition, impact density on estimation quality evaluated, threshold established for successful reconstruction. critical spanwise proportional Taylor microscale, characterizes domain dependence location. Due mean advection, either streamwise or temporal must satisfy criterion based microscale. A second configuration considered where comprised velocities in outer layer wall shear stresses only. near-wall statistics coherent structures, although not sampled, accurately reconstructed, possible because coupling motions. Finally, most challenging addressed only spatiotemporally resolved observed. remains accurate within viscous sublayer deteriorates significantly with distance wall. units, this trend nearly independent Reynolds number considered, indicative fundamental difficulty reconstructing wall-detached motions data.

Estimation from Misaligned Observations with Limited Feedback

In remote sensing applications with large numbers of sensors, the global correlation structure of the sensor observations may not be known locally at the sensors. However, some knowledge of this correlation structure can enable the sensors to communicate collaboratively to avoid interference and combat channel noise. A model is proposed for the uncertainty in correlation structure, called a fad...

Simultaneous estimation of heat fluxes applied to the wall of a channel with turbulent flow using inverse analysis

The main purpose of this study is to estimate the step heat fluxes applied to the wall of a two-dimensional symmetric channel with turbulent flow. For inverse analysis, conjugate gradient method with adjoint problem is used. In order to calculate the flow field,   two equation model is used. In this study, adjoint problem is developed to conduct an inverse analysis of heat transfer in a channel...

Turbulent Flow in a Micro-channel

Turbulent flow of water in a narrow gap of an emulsifier is investigated experimentally using micro-PIV (micro Particle Image Velocimetry) technique and compared with numerical predictions performed using the commercial code Fluent. The purpose of the investigations is to develop a procedure for wellcontrolled generation of mono-disperse suspension of micro droplets. These droplets will form a ...

Lagrangian statistics in turbulent channel flow

The Lagrangian dispersion of fluid particles in inhomogeneous turbulence is investigated by a direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow. Lagrangian velocity and acceleration along a particle trajectory are computed by employing several interpolation schemes. Among the schemes tested, the four-point Hermite interpolation in the homogeneous directions combined with Chebyshev polynomia...
